Book: Candide by Voltaire
This week, Li Jin of Means of Creation is reading Candide. Here's what she had to say about it:
Scandalous in its time, Candide is a classic for good reason, filled with satire of government, religion, and philosophy. Particularly interesting is the ending, in which the work of cultivating a garden (i.e. keeping busy with work) is suggested as an antidote to the boredom/meaninglessness of the world.
